Merino Short Sleeve Base layer

(7 customer reviews)

Soft, warm and comfortable. Premium New Zealand 150g merino base layer.

Aimed at Summer and Autumn riding, the light weave Merino wool, will perform under a jersey, wicking sweat directly to the top layer, leaving you cool and dry during the ride and at the coffee stop. Our new, T-neck base layer is made of 100% Merino wool, naturally dyed to make a smooth, functional garment. The fast wicking properties of natural merino make it a superb partner for  any jersey, top layer.

All the seams have flatlock stitching so they won’t chafe.  The base layers are close fitting, but the high-stretch weave won’t feel restrictive. The garment is cut long at the back and raised at the front for a better fit on the bike.

Please compare to quality, finish and performance of merino base layers at double the retail cost. We have invested in a huge quantity of these:- to offer them, post free at under £25-  without any compromise on quality.

This won’t feel cold when you’ve stopped at the cafe and the material won’t feel clingy like man-made fibre, constructed base layers do.

Soft neck line with embroidered logo looks just.. smooth.

Constructed from 150g/m 100% New Zealand, hand sheared, Merino Wool fabric.

Odor resistant, excellent perspiration wicking and thermoregulation.

Features & Sizing
  • As natural, technical fabric, it requires hand washing and care.
  • Merino is one of the softest types of wool available, due to finer fibers and smaller scales
  • Like most wools, merino contains lanolin, which has antibacterial properties, resulting in reduced human body odor. It is not uncommon for users to wear a garment for multiple days in a row.
  • Like cotton, wool absorbs water, but, unlike cotton, wool retains warmth when wet, thus helping wearers avoid hypothermia after sweating from strenuous exercise or getting rained on when outside.
  • Merino is excellent at regulating body temperature, especially when worn against the skin. The wool provides some warmth, without overheating the wearer. It draws moisture (sweat) away from the skin, a phenomenon known as wicking, which results in helping the wearing stay comfortable whether it be in warm or cold conditions. The fabric is slightly moisture repellent (keratin fibers are hydrophobic at one end and hydrophilic at the other), allowing the user to avoid the feeling of wetness.

I have loads of base layers. But now I’ve just got one. This is my first Merino seems to eliminate the coldy, wety, freezey, feeling you one the skin get after a puncture or stop. Just feels nice. Get 1

  2. Mark Dawson

Great garment. Soft and arrived fast. Would have liked the arms to be a bit longer but have ordered another none the less.

Product excellent, does as described. Never write reviews but felt that I needed to in this instance. Order sent immediately however unknown to me it was misplaced in the school in which I work where it was being delivered to, so I contacted customer service and a replacement was dispatched. Two parcels arrived on my desk and I embarrassingly contacted customer service again, apologising as theerror was with me. The response was unexpected as I was asked to give the additional item to a pupil interested in cycling. Well done galibier you have a customer for life! Thanks.

When on the bike I’d always favoured a ‘synthetic ‘ base layer, however this has changed my opinion.Warm sooooo comfortable and a great fit. The only downside for me is that I find wool hangs on to sweat rather more, but the benefits outweigh this minor negative (just ordered my 2nd).
I always find sizing handy so 6’2 by 73kg and medium was spot on.

Like always with Galibier garments, it delivers as described. It’s a quality, nice and light merino baselayer. which always keeps in handy; so just get at least one 😉

  6. Yoann

Great base layer with an incredible quality/value/warmth ratio.
I’m 6’4″, ordered an L and it fits perfectly. Would love to see a long sleeve version for cold weather.

  7. David

Good base layer. Have one for a couple of years. Sleeves are very very short though. No real complaints at that price.
